What’s best to use when abroad credit or debit cards. Bank with nationwide and hsbc. Thanks

May I suggest you get a "user friendly" credit card and debit card ?I don't think the ones you've named are in the best buys category for use abroad.Barclays Reward credit card is top rated by MSE - then there are several good debit cards, like Starling and Chase.

I only use a Starling debit card when abroad and make sure all charges are in the local currency.0

Starling for debit. Halifax Clarity for credit (useful for flight/hotel/car reservations for the added protection)

Nationwide..... I think the credit card is fee free and the debit card fee free for ATM's I know mine are but I have the Flex Plus account. Ask in the branch or call them.0

I have a JaJa (formerly Post Office) credit card for use abroad.
A good card is fast becoming an essential as so many places are going cashless.0 -

Your information is out of date... at one time all their cards were fee-free, but those are long gone. Their fees are lower than most other banks and they do offer a special fee-free credit card, but you can do better with the 'travel' cards.
