Jet2 price increase for sun beds

Options
We have a holiday booked with Jet 2 to travel to Santorini. This is not a cheep holiday and is costing nearly £5500 for two people on a bed and breakfast basis. Last week we received an email from jet2 informing us that the hotel were now charging locally for the sunbed around the pool. So basically we will have to pay a minimum of 200 Euros for 4 hours use of a sunbed. Up to 600euros depending on the position of the sunbed. Or we can use the beds on the beach for free. I’m not keen on the beach and only really use the pool. Jet 2 will not offer us. Refund of out deposit as they state the increase is with the hotel and not them. Is there anything I can do about this, surely this is not fare.

This is a hotel decision - not Jet2.
The name of the establishment would help.
Did the brochure or online advert for the hotel mention a charge for the use of sunbeds when you were planning to book.
Is there any such charge for those on HB or AI - or is it only B&B guests ?
Having said that I have never come across a tourist hotel charging for sunbeds.

€200 for 4 hours sunbed use! Just when you think you've seen it all.  Although it does sound like quite an exclusive resort.

As NoodleDoodleMan says it'd a hotel introduced charge and not Jet2.  As it's a package holiday you have protections under the Package and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.  These state that if a significant change is made to the holiday then you should have the option of cancellation for a refund.  The problem is what is considered a significant change to the holiday - that is often open for debate.

Jet2 obviously don't consider this a significant change.  They will also have clauses in their T&Cs about local charges, and that "all information is correct at time of publishing" etc.  First question would be whether Jet2 advertised pool loungers as a specific benefit at this property.  If they did that may help your argument.

Surely Jet2 have no more control over the increased cost of sunbeds than they have over the price the hotel charges for drinks.  I presume the OP means the cost for them over the period of the holiday is 200 euro.  As the holiday is costing in excess of £5k, I'm guessing it's 2 weeks so roughly 15 euro per day.  I can understand the OP being annoyed at the unexpected charge but it's a tiny percentage of the holiday cost so I wouldn't expect Jet2 to consider it a major change.  Nobody is forced to use sunbeds.

A small bet that it is the Nikki Beach Resort.

These are club type pool areas with music pumping and more a day club scene than a pool to flop around.  I expect the OP booked for this very reason.

Those pictured Balinese beds are far from your average plastic sunbed.

Would be good if the OP clarified. 200 euros for 4 hours does seem a lot but then again some day beds in Vegas are simarlarly priced even without a pool party

    Maybe it's just me - but 5&1/2 grand for B&B ?

From the link provided by Westin, it's not your average B&B in Greece.

I would suggest that that is the price for the duration of the stay, not just for one day. And is potentially the amount of time the OP is given each day so that they can charge different time slots for for morning / afternoon/ evening?
If it is the Nikki, then the charge depends on what type of stay you have booked. *Sunbeds by the pool have additional charge, according to the bed packages, for all our guests.
Was this not made clear when you booked? Can you check with the hotel when this charge came into force?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Other than stating 'local charge may apply for some items' I don't think Jet2 or any other company has a liability.  If you want to see real ripoff look at many hotels now which add a resort charge for use of pool etc.  That charge isn't optional and can be $30 or more per day.
