Fresh Direct Debits for Switching!!!!

Hi all

I'm going to do a Current Account Switch, and the account I'm switching from needs to have 2 Direct Debits.

The account I'm going to switch from currently has no Direct Debits set up, so I'm thinking of just changing a couple of small direct debits (for our mobiles) on to the account.

So my question is.....do I need to wait for a payment cycle to go through before switching, or can I carry out the switch straight away and the Debits will just follow on when they are requested next month????

Hope that makes sense. Any help greatly received.

Cheers

It really depends on the urgency!
personally I would wait until they have both paid out once- that way you know there are no hiccups and you will have met the t&cs.

Options for artificially generating DDs have been discussed here: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5734632/savings-accounts-accepting-dds/p1

Personally, I'd wait until they pay out once before switching, but in theory as long as the DDs has been set up properly and is "active" (ie. capable of being called on to make a payment if required) then it should be okay - this normally takes up to 10 working days.

If you send money via Friends and Family and select the linked bank account, then does it get taken via DD.

I just linked an account last night, and when I go to send money it states that it will be sent right away, don't understand that. Could it be because the DD is not actually showing/setup on the bank account yet? It has been verified.

Plus, for those that switched an account with a PayPal DD, then does it automatically get updated with PayPal without having to verify the account again.

I've just recently switched from Santander to First Direct; I didn't have any direct debits so I set up to standing order's paying funds into 2 other bank accounts and I've received an email from FD today informing me that the £150 switching payment should  be visible in my account shortly and checked my FD account 30mjns later and the payment was showing in my account

@wilf1234 Ignore the quoted post unless your bonus terms say SOs are an acceptable alternative to DDs.

If pushed for a deadline schedule the transfer now a few days beyond the 10 working days a DD is needed to set up and pull.

I’ve just had a quick look at the FD switch page. Can’t see any mention of DDs.

    @wilf1234
what do you mean when you say the account you’re switching from needs 2 DDs?

A lot of switching offers require DD to be switched from the old account

Another forumite mentioned FD, not me!. I'm looking at Nationwide, which requires 2 DD's to be switched over
