Tax Returned.co.uk (or not)

Options
I used tax returned.co.uk a few years ago. Last year HMRC said that i had a refund but i never received it. I chased tax returned and they were pretty evasive and wouldnt answer direct questions.

I left it thinking it would all come out in the wash. Today i spoke to HMRC about something else and also enquired about my refund. They told me it was issued directly to tax returned last February. I have never received a thing from them nor any sort of communication telling me about the refund. Is this allowed??

Probably not...    Look at your contract with taxreturned - you have given them authority to deal with HMRC on your behalf for a fee/commission.  If they have not passed on what was left of the refund - you will have to go down the route of suing them.

But first check that you have formally told HMRC that taxreturned is no longer acting for you...
I need to think of something new here...

    https://www.taxreturned.co.uk/fees/

our fee is the greater of 28% (+VAT) or £50 (+VAT). If your refund is less than £50 (+VAT), our fee will be limited to the amount you received, not a penny more.

Fees will still apply to any claims submitted to HMRC before the cancellation or termination of a Contract.

Oh my, they make it sound like they are doing you a favour by waiving their minimum fee if your refund is under £60!
