Moving house

Hi all, hoping someone can help me and I am sorry if its been asked before!
We are moving house. We currently have a fixed deal with EDF for £96 but moving to a property that is provided by British Gas.
What is the cheapest option for me whilst we are in an energy crisis?

By law your contract for a fixed rate is for a property, not for a person. So if there is nothing in your contract that you can take your contract with you to a new property.

Until recently there were still people who reported that EDF would allow them to take the fixed tariff with them, but the last threads were that EDF refused this. People had called EDF while they still allowed it it, but when they (much?) later moved they would not honour this commitment.

You can give it a try and call them or better chat with them. If they agree, make sure to take screenshots so you have proof later.

In general you need first to become a BG customer. When you move in please take the meter readings (incl photo) and report them to BG. Make sure to tell them you don't want to go onto a fixed tariff. The moment you move in you are automatically their customer on a deemed tariff, which is identical to the capped SVT.

After 21 days you can switch back to EDF if they let you take your cheap fix with you.

Btw, you don't have a fix for 96£, you have a fixed tariff that guarantees you unit rates, and what you pay in total depends how much energy you use.
