I’m with ShellEnergy. They suggested my DD increased by 180% despite being a good customer. After discussion they offered to reduce it to a 140% increase. I’ll be my own piggyback in future and move onto a DD that takes monthly usage payments only and manage summer/winter bills myself.

What is a good customer? There are no different rates for good or bad customers. And the direct debit is (or better should be) calculated based on your estimated energy use for the next 12 months, based on your real use for the last year.LizfromLeeds said:I’m with ShellEnergy. Your decision to go for variable direct debit is perfect for you. You realise that there will be higher bills in winter and you are going to budget for this, so there should be no bad surprises.
Did you calculate what you will use the next 12 months, with adjustments for the 200£ loan and increases in October?
