Photinia hasn't been mentioned yet. One of mine with new foliage emerging bright red is blighted by leaf spot but another one down the road is splendid. I also have a different variety and whilst the new foliage emerging is nice, it's pretty much boring the rest of the year. All reaching well over 2m.Someone else has a variegated holly of a similar size. Easy to keep in shape.1

A neighbour has a variegated holly that is like a 2-metre ball.
Loads of red berries around Christmas look really nice.1 -
Variegated holly is nice, but normal holly is one of my pet dislikes!

We have a communal garden, people plant what they like
. There is a beautiful red acer in a pot, everyone loves it.
My favourite bush is a rose but suspect that’s not what you’re looking for. I’ve just ordered a Platinum Jubilee rose, it’s bright pink with a strong scent.1 -
Red acers are lovely - we have one near our front door that's threatening to block our exit. Took a long time to get to that size, tho'!Rose? Go wash yer mooth oot, mon...

We have an acer palmatum dissectum atropurpureum (red and finely dissected) and it is very slow growing unless it likes the conditions. But a beautiful plant2

Ceanothus, beautiful blue/ purple flowers, comes in evergreen varieties too.
love acers, we have many different varieties but reds are my favourite.3 -
Cali Lilac? Yes, really attractive when they work. I planted one in a corner a good 15 years ago, and it was the scrawniest specimen ever, with hardly any blooms. It did the decent thing itself, and keeled over.Weirdly, another shrub - no idea what - grew in its place and is thriving; nice, green, bushy.0

Take a photo and post it up, somebody will know what it is.Bendy_House said:Cali Lilac? Yes, really attractive when they work.
