Energy Hikes

I was on fixed tariff Octopus, this expired April. I went with their loyalty tariff, but the sum quoted monthly was around £172.00. I was only paying £45.37 a month, which increased to £66.00 recently as our usage went up slightly. I contacted them and said this was impossible for me to pay £172.00 monthly, and they agreed to drop to £77.00 per month. I will have to wait and see how usage goes to decide if it’s enough. But I am not paying above what has not been used, or be hugely in credit. They are very approachable and have helped me.

  • Hi,
set up a wee spreadsheet and update at least once a month, so as to keep an eye on usage and cost, also provide monthly readings to supplier if not on a smart meter.

If you came of a fixed rate your unit rates might double for electricity and might more than triple for gas.

£77 will get you into quite a bit of debt by this time next year. As advised by @frugalmacdugal do your calculations and put aside the money to cover the debt.

You also can post you usage in KWh for the last 12 months and how much debt you still have, as well as the region you are in and we will have a closer look at a realistic forecast.
