If its helpful, SMARTY (Three) have Unlimited Data for £16/m at the moment, via Simsherpa.com  (I have a TP-Link AC750).  Its a 1 month rolling plan, cancel anytime.

Have a look in the 'pawn' type shops, they may have secondhand routers, I know you need to work but it might do the kids good to go without games etc for a week or 2......

Thanks for the tips.  Finally got call from VM after my port request on landline went through as i decided to sign up with NOWbroadband on a 12month £21pm deal.  My new Fibre  provider will discount the first 6 months on my new contract due to the delay so should only have 2/3 months overlap or less if any further delay installing.
VM agent who rang me was actually quite helpful and decent, and understood that IF they had contated me or I got through to that department when i first contacted them or even within 10 days of my canceling I would have had options to change to a reasonable contract and just signed for 18months again, no interuption to services just lower tv package and slightly lower broadband - but at an affordable cost.
