Hi, I bought a TV from Curry's 3 months. A LG c1. Expensive and it has broken already. Have I been sold a faulty TV. I've did a Google search and it seems to be an issue since there is so many with the same issue. I've contacted Curry's and they said they will try to fix it but it will take at least 2 week. Anyone with the same issue? Can anything be done? Thanks

This is better-suited to the Consumer Rights board.

The Consumer Rights Act 2015 is on your side. Within 6 months from purchase/delivery any fault is assumed to have existed at the time of sale therefore the seller must either (a) prove otherwise (i.e. prove that the consumer damaged the goods), or (b) provide a remedy. Said remedy would be a repair, a replacement, or a refund (in full if within 6 months). The consumer can express a preference but ultimately it's the seller's choice. The chosen remedy must be effected with minimal inconvenience to the consumer.

The seller (Currys) in this case has opted to repair. For a TV then anything up to 30 days is probably reasonable as a timescale - anything after that could be deemed unreasonable. So as of right now you don't really have a complaint.

Note: if the TV fails again (for any reason, not just the same fault) then you do not have to accept another repair - the seller is allowed a single repair attempt, thereafter you can exercise your final right to reject per the CRA2015 for a refund. Again if you're within 6 months from purchase then it would be a 100% refund; after 6 months then the seller can deduct an amount from the refund to account for time of ownership, and the percentage deduction increases with time. (Any deduction after 6 months and up to a year should be minimal).

  • Thanks Jenni. That's very helpful and good to know. I will let the repair happen but a new TV that has broken after 3 months does not fill me with confidence going forward. I thought Curry's would have been faster with the repair. Being without the TV is like losing an arm. Haha

Two weeks is not unreasonable. Currys won't repair it, it'll go to an LG authorised repair agent. You'd possibly have got a quicker fix if you'd gone direct to LG under their warranty.
Next time, buy from RS or JL, for a 5 year warranty.

C1 is the highest rated TV out there and the issue doesn't seem as common as you say so you were extremely unlucky. If it was within 14 days you could have possibly requested immediate replacement but now you just have to wait it out.

Out of interest what is the fault? I've got the same model and haven't heard of any common issues.
