Hermes, post delivery charge

I recently sent 4 packages of golf shafts and clubs. Surprisingly they all arrived. However I have just received an email from Hermes/Evri, some 3 weeks later, saying that I owe an extra £8+ as one of the parcels was too long. I have fallen foul of this before so made sure that the length was within the 120cm limit. Is this legal? Surely by accepting the parcel at the drop off point, they have then effectively “signed” a contract to deliver. Sharp practice in my opinion. Has anyone else had this happen, and any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks
Thanks

They are obviously trying to pull a fast one, other posts on here suggest the same, overweight is the usual one.
I always measure and weigh all of my parcels sent with Hermes/Evri.
Reply to their message asking for proof of excessive length, if they cannot show you the proof, you have no case to answer.5 -
Often happens. The parcels are scanned by machine, another is tight up against it and it scans the 2 as 1 . Only one label has been scanned so that parcel is now oversize. Tell them to do one !

Are you sure it was measured correctly?
I know their website says a package can't exceed 120cm in length if you use a ParcelShop, but it's unclear whether its girth plus its length must also be less than 245cm in total if you use a parcel shop.
If you are happy the measurements were OK, challenge them to prove it was too long.0 -
Thanks Manx, parcel was 120 x 15 x15 so well within any gross measurements.
Thanks to all for your response’s

As the maximum size allowed by Hermes is 120cm long and the OP has stated that the parcel they sent was right on this limit:it's possible that when checked by Hermes, the package was a little bit over (possibly by only a few millimetres) due to either the OP being ever so slightly out when measuring or as it was already spot on 120cm when sent, pressure on the side of the package could have caused the length to bulge over the allowable size,Blindsider67 said:parcel was 120 x 15 x150

The earlier reply asking for proof is the best answer. I'd also add that it seems ridiculous that it's taken them three weeks to get in touch. By this stage the parcel has been delivered and the recipient will obviously have destroyed the packaging.
It may not be a scam, but if you were going to scam people, this is exactly how you'd do it.0
