Hello, I have been using microsoft office 2010 plus bought from software4students since 2011. I know that this is no longer available and just wanted to check if there are security issues if I continue to use it? I am not very techi so i would appreciate any help from anyone who can advise on this matter. Thank you.

There is a risk of using unsupported software but it is difficult to quantify and depends greatly on the user and how they use the product.

Office 2010 never had many serious vulnerabilities over the last few years and there doesn't seem to be any new ones spotted.

If you often open documents from third party sources, especially things that use more sophisticated functions such as macros and VBA then the risk is a bit higher. If you use Outlook 2010 then that would also be a bit higher risk due to unsolicited emails having a potential to exploit a vulnerability.

If you mainly use it yourself to create and edit documents then you are probably low risk.

I bought MS Office Professional 2010 with licences for 3 machines in 2010 from them and have had no problems. Pity I cannot still buy stuff at the super cheap prices as then.

Hi, thank you tallmansix for your advice, like graycritic, I have been happy and had no problems with my office package, but now it's not supported I was just a little worried, even though my usage is mainly confined to documents that I am creating myself.
Does anyone know if the free Libra? program would be more secure?

I discovered the other day that Office 2010 will not re-install onto a new PC, because MS no longer support the online (or telephone) activation for it. Shame as it's a good suite. I still use my copy, but now realise if I replace the PC, I probably will have to use something else.

IIRC Office had a different number initially for activation but that was changed at some point to match the same one that Windows XP used.  And telephone activation is still available for XP.

If you are only using the basic office features, then go to www.office.com and use the online O365 version. Will be up to date and as secure as it can be and you will get the latest features.

No need to run out of date clunky versions of Office when they will give you access to the latest version free. You can also get 5Gb of free online storage with Microsoft Onedrive which gives you versioning backups as well.

When I bought mine it was W7 - when W10 came along tand hey said MS Office Professional 2010 would not work - Since that time I have aquired a 8.1 desktop and 2 W10 laptops and all work fine.
The main thing to remember is to remove the free trial 365 that comes with you new machine before loading it as they are not compatible.

You can have as many versions of Office installed as you like, but like everything else in Windows, you can only have one program be the default.  The model changed from 2013 onwards and its not generally possible to have 2013, 2016, 2019 as three separate Office programs for boring technical reasons only sad people like me understand.

Anything older though - shouldn't be a problem.

Just ignore the activation, I get message every time I open up Office 2010 telling me activation failed and I just ignore plough right on

So does my 2010, even though not activated

I suppose it may depend on what you need it for, mine is just me, letters, bit of Excel, nothing demanding
