    Hi

My husband and I want to open a joint account to pay bills.  His account with the Halifax has been running for years and I have an old Halifax account that has a zero balance and hasnt been used for years.  When I looked on there website it said we both have to go into a branch to open one, we can’t do it online even though all the Halifax banking we do is online.  The problem is with bank branches keep on closing and the fact we live in a rural area the nearest branch is now nearly 40 miles away  :#

Does anyone know if this is common, or is it just the Halifax?  It’s not the end of the world if we can’t get a joint account, we’ve managed for 26 years without it.  At the moment we pay for different things and with some bills skyrocketing I thought it would be fairer to have a joint account.
Have you considered a joint account with Santander?

123 Lite might suit, £2pm fee but cashback on utilities, CT, Broadband/phone.

Website says you can apply online for joint account.

I changed my First Direct current account to a joint account by phone yesterday, took about 40 minutes, and tedious as she was obliged to read out out yards of Ts&Cs. But apart from that, seamless.
Hi, don't suppose you know if you can have a joint account as well as your own current ac?

I didn't check with FD specifically, but generally you CAN have more than one single account plus more than one  joint account with the same bank. I don't think that FD is different.

Thanks very much.  It feels like the joint account side of things isn't generally advertised very well on most banks, I'll give them a call.
