Electricity tariff with low standing charge?
Comments

You've posted in the LPG.Heating Oil, Solid & Other Fuels forum which is a bit of a backwater. You'll get more replies in Energy.Presumably you are referring to electricity only? Try a few comparison sites and enter 1kWh (or the minimum the site allows) as your annual usage and check the results.1

Not unless you have a time machine. There are no tariffs with a low standing charge any more.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Utilita still seems to have them.Ectophile said:Not unless you have a time machine. There are no tariffs with a low standing charge any more. How does the structure of this tariff work?
*Our Smart Energy tariff has two unit rates and no standing charge The First Rate is collected for the first 2 kWh of electricity or 2 kWh of gas used per day. The Saver Rate applies for all remaining kWh of electricity or gas used in the day."1 -

That will only help if the electricity used on a day is less than 2KWh on a day. The moment you go over 2 KWh the increased unit rate is equal to the normal standing charge.Gerry1 said:

The system works well for gas if you don't use gas at all during summer, but very few people will really below 2KWh per day.

Oof - not certain it will save too many people much if we're representative of the way things work with them and I'm reading it correctly. 0.74 perkWh for the first 2, then after that it drops to not so far below out existing rates...but allowing that for us, that initial £1.48 spend will be for the overnight period, that's not gong to anywhere NEAR make a saving on even the current higher than previous standing charge!Gerry1 said:

@pochase @EssexHebridean Agreed, it's a standing charge in all but name unless you've effectively turned the gas off. But I was only answering the OP's question, not providing a recommendation !1

@Gerry1 absolutely got that, those First Rate figures made me need a sit-down though! I'm still twingeing a bit at a 17p overnight "cheap" rate!
