I've been gifted a prepaid Visa card by an American company.  The stored money is in US dollars.  Edited to say: it's a virtual card, there is no physical piece of plastic.

Will UK online retailers accept this and just use an exchange rate to convert into pounds?

I am unsure, because it's not like you can bring a dollar gift card from somewhere like Gap in the USA and use it in pounds in their UK system?  Or can you?

Has anyone been in this situation and had no problem having it accepted on UK sites?

(I have asked if they can reissue it in GBP but it doesn't look like they can).

You used to be able to withdraw money from a UK ATM with FairFX's $ card but the exchange rate was poor and there was a charge.
this was a few years ago (pre pandemic) so may have changed but you can try for nothing, might be a way of accessing the money

Ah, it's a virtual card.  Sorry, I should have specified that.  I'll edit my post.

You might be able to deposit the balance on the card, minus any fees, into a Wise account, and from there send GBP to your UK current account.

It depends on the company that issued it...  Some allow overseas transactions and some do not.  The ones that do allow overseas transactions may also be a little more wary about an online order from a UK based company to a UK address.

Which company issued the card? Do they have a website?  what is the value of the card?
