Refund Requested .. Excuse given .. 'found a better price'

last week I sold a pair of trousers, the buyer asking about delivery as the trousers were needed for a meeting. He asked if i could post off first class, for which he would pay extra .. I amended the listing to offer 1st class, rather than my usual 2nd class.
Now he has asked for a return .. with the excuse as 'found a cheaper price' then with an additional comment 'too small and too long'
I always measure waist and inside leg, never just assuming the label is correct, so I am 100% certain the trousers are the size and length as per the description.
I can accept the return, but surely I am not expected to pay the original 1st class postage (£4:30) let alone the return postage.

You should be able to tell from the case what sort of return it is, either a change of mind or a SNAD. If it’s a SNAD it might just be worth phoning eBay explaining that all information was clearly shown in description , if you had the actual measured sizes in item specifics they might listen. If you only had them in description it’s unlikely they will help, but always worth a try.
An SNAD will mean you pay for a return. I hate selling clothes and try and avoid it at all costs as people don’t seem to be able to read actual measurements at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. He probably didn't need them after he wore them to the meeting..................

Found better price return means buyer pays the returns postage. But the seller needs to refund the full original payment (including the outward postage).
However the buyer may decide that his 'better price' didn't include the returns postage so he may not bother....fingers crossed.0 -
If you are a private seller and have no returns set on the listing you should be able to decline a change of mind return (such as found better price), although I'm not sure if the buyer could then just open a SNAD return instead. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0

OP here .. I just said yes .. the eBay message stated that he will pay return postage, so better than first thought .. Of course I am still out my original postage, although I have not received it or send the refund.
maybe I'll just refund the purchase price and see what happens0 -
As theonlywayisup said he may not bother returning it once he sees how much it will cost.1
