Estimated usage for future fixed tariffs with EDF
Im currently on a fixed tariff with EDF until end of January 2023, and the costs are fine at 16.93p p/kWh for electricity and 3.013p p/kWh for gas. Standing charge are roughly 50p a day combined.
I was on my account the other day thought and clicked on the new tariffs they were currently offering me just out of interest. The gas usage of around 11,000kWh annually is correct, but they have estimated my electric annual usage as 5,700kWh when my electric usage has only been around 2,500 kWh for each of the last two years.
Now I am not going to change tariffs just now anyway, but if I was going to I would be locked into a new Direct Debit that would be charging me £225 a month variable or £335 a month fixed based on the usage, when this should be much lower as I only used less than half what they estimate I will in the future.
I have contacted EDF, but so far have had no answer as to how they get an estimate of over double what I have used the last two years. Is this common practice?

Welcome to the forum.EDF's online account software is, shall we say, idiosyncratic. They've purchased a licence for the Kraken system (as developed by Octopus and said to be used by E.ON Next, BG Evolve and others) and the sooner they switch over the better.Until they do, EDF and their customers are stuck with it.It's one of the (many) things that nudged me to move my gas from EDF to join my electricity with Octopus!N.
