Headstone additional inscription costs

I've just been quoted nearly £1,100 to have an additional inscription added his side of the double headstone we have on my mum's grave. Seems a bit high to me, I was expecting about half of that. The stonemason doesn't charge by the letter, it's just a flat fee. Is this reasonable?

It does sound exhorbitant,we have just got the invoice for the headstone for Mum and Dad ( we've had a new one made as there was no room on Dad's old one from 30 years ago ). It's only £1000 for.the whole thing,a full size headstone with the wording on,and a vase.
    Worth shopping around ,definitely.

I paid less than £500 for the stonemason to collect a memorial tablet from my home (260 mile round trip), add an inscription and then place on the family grave (another 160 mile round trip).  £1,000+ sounds like a lot to me....

I might ask around but I think we're a bit restricted on who the local council will let us use. The original memorial, double marble headstone, base plinth and vases with inscription for my mum was around £2.5K.

That was the sort of figure I originally had in my mind.

Does that include the Parochial fee, assuming this is CoE? If so, it should be £29 (2021 charge) or possibly a bit more, but certainly not a huge amount. Table of charges: https://www.churchofengland.org/sites/default/files/2021-04/Parochial Fees A4_21BfromMAY.pdf
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Yes it includes any fees, which was only £33 in this case.

I paid about £450 to have my Dad’s headstone removed and Mum’s details added, the headstone cleaned and replaced on the grave.  That was last year.
