Buying a car online

I need to buy a car now my motability vehicle is due for renewal and I can't find anything suitable to lease again.
I'm interested in a Japanese import as I've had these in the past and found them very reliable.
My problem is there are very few for sale in our area, especially from dealers so I'm going to need to look further afield. The problem is I don't have the opportunity to travel far and I've noticed that since the lockdown many dealers now sell online and deliver.
Has anyone used this kind of service and if so how did it go?

I used this once with Motorpoint - Had no issues with the car and was a good service.
family members have used this service three times - first time with motorpoint again and had no issues the other two times (one from a main dealer and another from an independent garage) - first car had a crack in the dashboard not visible from the photos and looked like it had been in an accident before and the second car needed a new battery after 2 weeks.1 -
I have never done this but my neighbour's son bought from Cazoo and all seemed to go satisfactorily.
I think a big part of the success would be what type / age of car are you buying and what type of supplying dealer? A nearly new car from a franchised dealer is quite different to an end-of-life car from a back-street trader, with a whole spectrum in between.1 -
We've bought cars remotely, but that was with nearly new under dealer warranty. I'd be a bit more reluctant to do it with an imported car but there's no reason it wouldn't be fine.
The dealer should send you a video tour and photos of anything you want, you pay up, the car gets delivered (driven or transported), you get a test drive and a chance to return it, job done.
You do get some pretty nice/big imported MPVs so I can see why you're looking that way.
If you liked your mobility car, will they let you extend the lease?1 -
Just ensure dealer is not too far away as u may have to return it with problems.1
