Best alternative to Hermes?

I run a small business delivering cakes etc. over the Internet. We've always used Hermes as they were the cheaper option and have label printing facilities round the corner from us. 

On occasions they've missed delivery dates but now twice in a row it has been missed. The service is also a joke. 

Any recommendations for an alternative?

We've been 'sucked in' by Hello Fresh recently 🤔 and they use the often maligned Yodel.

DPD has always been one of my favourites. 
I've never personally sent anything with them, but they have always taken care of our packages, they give you a delivery time and keep you updated, you can track packages and update when needed. 
I think it would be worth paying that little extra for better service, as it will likely help with repeat customers and people spreading the word and leaving positive reviews.

Depends on the size and weight and urgency but for smaller parcels Royal Mail compares well to Hermes.
