Bank Statements for DWP

When DWP request bank statements can you redact your outgoing payments? Pretty sure I have done this before but can’t remember.

They made an error when I sold and moved house. They didn’t sort my move. This should have been sorted last December when only one statement was needed. Now they want to see the full seven months from November to May.

And before anyone pipes up and says ‘if you have nothing to hide’ well I don’t. The only money going in is from DWP my State Pension and pension top up.

I just don’t feel they have a right to see where I shop, have my hair cut, get my petrel from, when dog goes to the vet etc. Somethings are really private and not much in this world, or UK seems to be private any more. I just want to redact my outgoing payments.

Also, it’s a joint account with my daughter as she sorts all my payments as she has power of attorney.

No one can answer that as it will depend why DWP want to see your bank statements and what information you redact. Try it and see, if they don't like it or it does not show all the information they require they will reject them and insist on the full statements.

Redact what you want and see if its ok, they really have better things to do than look at what you spend your money on trust me.

From the viewpoint of a claims processor at DWP, I and most of my colleagues couldn't have cared less what money is spent on.  If there was an investigation into entitlement the complete unredacted statements would be required.
