Movado watch valuation advice

So my father in law come across this Movado watch (6B 159 - ?Weems) in his collection and after watching an auction programme online, has asked us if we could see if it might be worth anything.

I don’t know where to start but I don’t really want to fork out lots of money on valuations when it could be completely worthless.

Would like to find out if it has potential to be worth something first.

Any idea where I start???

A quick google (as I'd never heard of Movado) brings up this
Unless this seller is deluded as to its value, it looks like one for a specialist auctioneer to evaluate and to sell through.

  • Thanks. I’ve spoke to finest hour funnily enough this weekend and turns out it is valuable, and has potential to be even more so with a little restoration. So great news!

Be very careful with any restoration. Vintage watch collectors prize originality above all else, and you may well find any restoration will remove value rather than add it.

As it's one of the "dirty dozen" (although not by any means the rarest), it will always have value for collectors.

For those who have not heard of Movado, they are best known in recent-ish times for their Museum Watch.
