Our semi's roof needs redone this year before winter/ strong winds. I've been unwell so haven't had the energy to get quotes in but know it needs done asap. Do I need to contact building standards to get a building warrant from the council before getting quotes i.e. flag up with them that I'm getting roof redone? Fingers crossed I am able to get someone in as I know all builders are busy.

You need to pull a finger or two out in order to stand any chance of getting the work done before winter.Decent roofers round here are on a minimum of three months from quoting to starting work - That said, I've been trying to get my roof done for nearly a year now. Hoping the scaffolding goes up at the end of May.As for building warrant (you in Scotland by any chance ?), some roofers can self certify their work. Others will liaise directly with the council's Building Control dept. A few will leave it for you to handle - In the last case, I'd suggest contacting the council after you have appointed the contractor and got a firm start date for the work to commence. There may be a requirement to undertake additional thermal improvements such as extra loft insulation - BC will advise accordingly. Her courage will change the world.

Yes in Scotland. Will probably liaise with BC.0
