No checks were done by the airline either. Never spotted any spot check anywhere but maybe we were just elsewhere at the time.
When you say "staff helped with the app" was that by any chance Verifly? If it was then the airline did check your documents as BA do it digitally with Verifly.
It was the staff at the testing bit at Heathrow airport where we had the tests done. I'm unsure what it was called as husband booked it, but if it was then that would make sense.

ETA - Just looked. Am sure it was a LAMP test we booked, but we paid a lot less than current prices and I can't see anything about anywhere called Verifly.
Verifly is an app, not a testing provider.
Thank you. It WAS verifly because I checked and it's still on my phone. Mystery solved, thank you.

I’m travelling to the US at the end of August. Where would you recommend I book a test the day before? I won’t be at the airport until on the day. Is their a list of local providers somewhere?
"Buy me, Lady", said the frock, "and I will make you into a BEAUTIFUL & WHOLE & COMPLETE human being".
"Do not be silly", said the Man, "for a frock alone cannot do that".
"True", said the Lady, "I will have the shoes and the bag as well".

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/how-to-find-the-cheapest-private-coronavirus-tests-for-travel/ summarises the current market, but with entry rules being relaxed by many countries the testing requirement may not be applicable by then anyway....

you can book a supervised one that you do at home whilst the company watches you over the internet. they then send you the certificate by email. for the US, it must be done the day before you fly.
  • I would be slightly careful with the home tests (including the video supervised ones). When I tested positive recently my travel insurer wouldn't accept the home test result as evidence and I had to get get a PCR (which luckily was also positive - would have been stuck if the antigen test was positive and prevented me flying, but the PCR was negative so I couldn't claim insurance).  I'm not saying that all insurers will be this finickity, but it's worth checking.

Hopefully this will become immaterial shortly as the USA should drop the testing requirement.

Us and the rest of Europe should insist their policy is reciprocated with visiting Yanks having to suffer the same indignity until they fall into line.
