Moved to British Gas but numbers don’t add up

BG will not have taken into account any credit due to you from the closed Bristol Energy account. The Standard variable rates increased on 1 April. They will have calculated how much energy you are likely to use over next 12 months, at current rates. Gas consumption usually reduces during the summer, an annual estimate based on your 3 winter months could be about 21000kWh. Electricity tends not to go down so much, so with 2000 in 3 months you could be thinking of 8000kWh in a year. Incidentally these numbers are very high compared to so-called typical consumer. If you have not paid anything to BG, they will also have factored in recovering the approx £900 which you already owe them, possibly spread over only 6 months. All this could easily amount to £500 per month.0
