Default card

I defaulted on a credit card thanks to lock down. I’m making small payments to clear the balance.
My dilemma is that my wife is due to change her car in June. Will my default affect her score? It’s only going to be her name on the pcp for the car but she’s a named cardholder on my MBNA credit card and we have a joint mortgage.

If you have joint accounts on your credit files - then there is a chance the lender will examine both credit files. It'll depend on the finance providers criteria, which credit reference agency they use, and what they're looking for in an 'acceptable risk' customer. You can see the 'linked persons' in your credit reference agency reports - so you'll be able to see for sure if the financial link is present. If it is, then they have the ability to check, although my understanding is that not all would. Knowing who would or wouldn't is another matter entirely. It may not in itself be a barrier anyway, depending on how the rest of your credit history has been managed.0

No-one sees the "score" but you and it is never used in lending decisions, please read the sticky thread at the top, right next to where you clicked "create post". As you have joint credit your record might be assessed as well but mostly it'll be just a credit check on her and her affordability - the mortgage would be the main factor as she is not responsible for your debt on the card (that's just how named cardholders work technically speaking)0

Thanks so much for the replies. Makes total sense and sorry for being a noob and missing the sticky…0
