Is DPD paytu.online a scam?

I listed a bike for sale on Gumtree. Someone 100 miles away expressed an interest and said they would pay me via "DPD Delivery", which I have never heard of. They explained that they pay DPD, DPD give me a reference no, I log in to claim the funds and DPD collect the bike.
I got the reference no and the website looked genuine. I put in my debit card details but received a message saying they couldn't verify my card and I have not received payment.
I tried again - same result.
Then, co-incidentally, my bank notified me that they had picked up a suspicious payment trying to debit my account.
So, my debit card has been blocked and I haven't received the money for the bike. Luckily I still have the bike.
Reading this back it has all the signs of a scam but has anyone else come across this?

Similar scams happen all the time - hopefully you'll get yourself a new card, and the scammers won't have been able to take any money from your account. You won't be receiving any money for the bike. Get it re-advertised, and sell it only to someone local.
  • SCAM warning!
I just had two separate scammers try to fool me with DPD scam minutes after I posted my Gumtree add. Clearly, Gumtree adds attract this scum. Both said that DPD acts as a middleman in payment transaction and delivery. They would pay DPD via a "purchase request", DPD takes the money and sends them a link which they pass onto me. I click on the link and arrange a transfer to my bank card! DPD cpmntact me to arrange collection. I was suspicious straight away. One of them sent me a screenshot of the DPD website describing this service. I compared the look of the page - the DPD logo was in the middle top of the page and the real DPD logo is in the left top corner. Besides, there is no mention of such service on the DPD website. I phoned DPD today to ask them and inform them of this scam. They may put something on their website as a warning. They should. Many people will believe this scam.
