Capital One - Independent report from third party

Hi

So I'm disputing a transaction, where the goods I've received have been faulty and the seller is unresponsive. The good in question are portable monitors.

One of the things they've asked for is

"Please provide the independent report from the third party."

Now, I'm an engineer of sorts (technical), however I can't exactly be classed as independent if I'm disputing something myself.

What counts as an independent report? Is it a report from someone who's an engineer at a company? Am I basically meant to get a report like that?

Thanks

Yes, you need to find someone independent from the two parties (supplier and yourself), which could be a company or someone qualified to act on a self-employed basis - 'monitor' is obviously a wide term applying to anything from baby monitors to heart monitors via computer displays, but if you can't think of (or find via Google, etc) anyone suitable to inspect the goods then post more details about specifically what you're referring to and maybe someone will be able to advise further?

An independent report is a report of an inspection that's been carried out by someone who is an expert in the respective field but who is not involved or connected with either the credit card company or the consumer. (In this case, you.)  You cannot carry out your own inspection and issue a report because you are not a third party here.

Yes, it could be someone at a company or someone who is self employed and who can supply an official report on their own official letterheaded printed paper. If they are a member of an official body connected with their trade, so much the better.

You may have to pay for such a report but also may be able to claim for the cost of it when the issue is resolved.

I presume that a report from a local computer repair shop should suffice then....
  • I assume you are pushing an S75 not a chargeback, in which case you can claim the cost of the investigation too

Potentially, as long as they know how to write reports rather than just giving a quote to repair

It is indeed a section 75.

    Thanks

It could possibly be easier in this case to claim chageback - you want to return faulty goods  and the company doesn't respond. The goods don't even have to be faulty if sold distantly.

Ah. I've already gone down the section 75 route
