We need to get rid of our second car as it's old and we don't need it. Would rather scrap than sell and dont need it for part exchange.
Any pointers on who we should use?

Is it still drivable (as in MOT'd, insured etc)?
Call a few local vehicle dismantlers and ask them how much they will buy it for, telling them if it is deliverable to them or whether they will need to collect it. It will need to be scrapped through a registered business to be classed as scrapped.1 -
Where are you ?.Just a basic aera, as someone might be able to give better info.Near London Redcorn Ltd give good rates and come with a truck to pick it up.Paid same or next day.Get a quote here.

You don’t need to call anyone, in this day and age everything is done on-line. Put in your reg , choose the best quote and an agent will call you.
Remember they give you money, you don’t pay money for scrappy to take away.

Why would you scrap rather than sell? Just for the hassle factor? If it has an MOT and is driveable you'll probably get much more than a scrap amount. Seems to be at least £500 for a running car at the moment so maybe try a local back street dealer? This is MSE after all.I put my hands up, it was the hassle factor for me. 14 year old Honda CRV, I scrapped it for way under £200. The thing was it had a complete brand new exhaust system, 4 newish tyres (cheap type), 2 new front suspensions springs. The problem was it was rusting away on the chassis so it failed the MOT.. Garage told me welders around here are rare as hen teeth, and the cost to fix would have been prohibitive.
I haven’t driven now for around 4 years, cars are a money pit.

I did the same just a couple of months ago. If your car works and has an MOT you'll get at least twice as much selling than scrapping. But as you say you don't want that hassle, Google scrap car comparison sites and enter your car details on several (like insurance comparison sites you'll get different quotes from different places). I can't recommend any particular one as my best price, and the company I went with, was www.cartakeback.com. I've never scrapped a car this way before but it was really a breeze and I'd have no qualms recommending. The only negative I could lay at their door is that they only give you a day they'll pick up the car, no clue of timings till the day itself.0

This was about 20 years ago, but we had an old car where rainwater was getting in. Sounds daft, but the puddles were so deep you had to lift your feet up when going downhill and the back seat had algae growing on it!).
It was pointless to pay to repair and we'd had our money's worth out of it (bought for less than £500). We'd have got £50 for scrap. But the engine still ran OK. I phoned the local technical college and offered to donate it to the car mechanics dept. They bit my hand off!!! Collected it that day.
Two days later a lecturer turned up at my door with £50 - apparently they weren't allowed to accept donations!
So I got £50. Kids got educated. And my husband got the joy of following it down a motorway 18 months later!
Not quite money saving, I know...3 -
Thank you so much everyone.
we're looking at car.co.uk I think. They seem to have good reviews.0 -
If it's running and has MOT stick it on Gumtree for £500. Even if the first person to turn up knocks you down to £400 or £350 it's still more than a scrappy would pay.0

I use Cartakeback. Saves all the hassle and picked up from the house.
Life's too short to deal with the Gumtree/Marketplace/Ebay mob, who'll offer half whatever you advertise it for before even viewing.1
