Bought this laptop, now not sure....help

I've dived in without researching as price ridiculously cheap, used a 17.5% discount code to get it for £221 delivered. I'm a total non tecchie but just noticed a thread for a dell laptop and people saying it is no good with vista, which this one has...will it make it too slow, can I get it upgraded and how much would I expect to pay if I could. Or just your general thoughts as I can return it.......thanks in advance

  • I can't see why that won't run Vista.

You may find you have to switch some of the bells and whistles off to get it to run to a decent speed.
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

You'll probably need a bit more memory than it currently has for Vista, but there some amazing deals on laptop memory at the moment (e.g. 7dayshop has 1Gb for £11.49, if it happens to be the right spec!). You'll probably need to replace, rather than add to, the existing RAM though, as I doubt it has space for more than 2 modules.

Can you give any idea of how much to replace a RAM would be if I took it into a shop....
This is for my son for basic use.

You'll probably just need two of these (or the other identically priced but different clock rate ones that they have):

2Gb of laptop memory for £22 + postage!

Before you order anything, you just need to check the exact spec of the memory that the Acer uses to be sure it matches.

TBH, you can probably fit them yourself or get the other half to do it for you...
  • Its not a big deal to upgrade the laptop, you can find guides online for it, But personally I would hang off on getting vista until more programs run on it, or it is more secure.

It comes with 1gb of memory, so I'd wait to see how it runs before you upgrade. I run similar with no problems.

I would say that the laptop will run fine with 1gb ram
