Missed payment frustration

Options
Today when checking my Tesco credit card statement I have been given a missed payment charge, looking back on the statement I had made payments each month and can’t understand why it’s there, I rang up Tesco and was advised that I missed my last payment by a penny, he’s taken off the charge but has encouraged me to keep the statement for future defence incase I need to apply for something to explain that it’s a penny out, I’ve since now amended my credit cards to all be done via direct debit, I know this is gonna have a negative effect on my credit score as it’s the first time in 4 years it’s a missed payment, has anyone else suffered similar and am I getting worked up for nothing.

thanks Brett

  • Further to the above msg, I’ve since back tracked and gone through the payment system via my Tesco app when I go to make the min payment the amount is already there so I click the min payment and pay therefore it looks like Tesco have under taken the payment by a penny as when the agent I spoke to today told me that a few people have rang with the same issue today therefore I will contact Tesco again

Yes, you're getting worked up for nothing. A single late payment will have minimal impact (disregard the change in the score).

Set up a DD for at least minimum, preferably full payment to avoid it happening again. Making only minimum payments over the longer term will have far more of an impact than a single missed payment.
  • Nobody sees the score except you so don't worry about that

If they made an error then complain but as zx81 says, paying just the minimum does far more damage to your report (and how firms view you) than a single missed payment
  • Update, Tesco have come back to me and advised me that they have suffered a system issue with the payments this is a reason why it messed up for me
