Holiday security deposit

i booked a weekend away, paying the deposit several months ago. Cost of weekend around £500 in total.
Today I get an email stating the company is now taking a £200 security deposit 10 days before arrival. There was no security deposit when we booked. They report the change in conditions is with immediate effect and if not agreed by the customer no refund will be given.
is this legal?
PS same company refused a refund during full lockdown and suggested we go anyway. It’s a family business. We don’t want to be difficult but I’ve lost trust

No not legal. The contract was formed at the time of booking.

It takes all parties involved in the contract to agree Changes.

They are in breach if they cancel your booking.
