Hi,
I'm moving house soon and I want to redirect my mail.

 The royal mail website wants to charge me per person but also asks if they should redirect mail for everyone from this address with the same surname. Me and my husband have the same surname. If I add him as an additional person for redirecting mail I will pay £10 more. The question is do I need to add him? Has anyone done this recently? Will my husband receive his mail if I don't put his name down but tick the box that the whole household is involved in the move? The say that they will redirect the mail of everyone with the same last name as me.  
It's a bit  confusing.

You should be fine just asking for the redirection for everyone with the same surname.

The option for naming people individually is for situations where not everyone from the same family is moving out so there will still be people with the same surname continuing to live in the property.

Do you ever get mail adressed to another name eg your maiden name? If so you'll need to list that separately. If not, just tick the 'everyone from this address with the same surname' box.

when I do my re-direction (just did mine yesterday) I name everyone & do it for 3-6 months .

I always do my bank & cards a day before myself but there is always something that I forget so for the small amount it costs then I just name both my husband & I

They ask as there are 2 distinct types of redirection at the delivery office end.
Entire family move and not.
It makes it easy (or should) to identify if care needs taken around forenames.
If its an entire family move then the surname should be sufficient.

Remember the form has to be designed to cover all scenarios. though there are moves not to discriminate a less traditional family being penalised by (for example) not being married and moving as a family.
