Mot cover within warranty
My car had a one year used car warranty with mot cover included.
Just taken it for it’s mot and it’s failed on front ball joint dust cover on both sides and garage want £600 for repair.
I have asked the garage to submit a claim on the mot cover as I had a week of the warranty left as the only 2 items listed as not included under suspension in the cover is wheel and tyre.
Garage originally just put it through as a warranty claim which was refused as wear and tear. They now have correctly submitted under the mot. Cover but they have had my car nearly 3 weeks now and still haven’t got an answer for me.
Not really sure how to proceed as I need my car back

Was there a requirement to have the vehicle serviced by the dealer in accordance with the manufacturers guidance?0
-
There was and it was due it’s service at the same time as the mot. I had put it in for that to as I have paid into a service plan. The garage is the dealership that I bought the car from originallyThrugelmir said:Was there a requirement to have the vehicle serviced by the dealer in accordance with the manufacturers guidance?0 -
Have you asked garage for a courtesy car/spoken to the warranty company yourself?0
-
I haven’t spoken to the warranty company yet as the dealership said they were dealing with it but they keep promising to ring me with an update then they never ring back. I wasn’t sure what my rights were on a courtesy car as this is the first time I have owned a newer car.GrumpyDil said:Have you asked garage for a courtesy car/spoken to the warranty company yourself?0 -
I can’t believe it’s £600 for 2 ball joints.
Also why have you waited.
I would get a quote from another garage and take it there.
At worst £50 a ball joint and £100 to fit plus 4 wheel tracking £30.
£230
Put your reg in Euro car parts, car parts4less, Halfords and autodoc ( Europe based ) good parts catalog, shipping bad.
But you will get a price for parts.

Just spoke to my mechanic, Parts £30 as above, I’ve use parts in motion.
£60- £80 fitting and £25 for tracking.
So £135 at most.1 -
Worse, it seems to be £600 for two ball joint dust covers. They're a couple of pounds each (although a garage will buy an assortment bag for about a tenner). Replacing the dust covers might be false economy depending on the state of the ball joints (though there's no mention of play in them) but it would save having the alignment done provided it's currently within spec.Bigwheels1111 said:I can’t believe it’s £600 for 2 ball joints.0 -
Thanks everyone I waited as I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Mot cover has now come back and said they will take care of the bill. They have to use official parts and they so far have tracked down one but not two. Going on holiday in two weeks from Heathrow and no idea how I will get there. Garage can’t give me any indication how long it will take to get a second one.0
