If maintaining longevity is an objective, there is always the option of switching a donor account......................

I was going to suggest that but the OP's emphasis on credit checks made me think it might not be a good idea to open the FD account and the donor account. Could be wrong though - easy enough to open a second Santander account before switching - takes seconds to do.

Monzo or Starling accounts that can be opened without a hard search, and can be used for CASS switches

Though as I mentioned before, one or two hard searches for current don’t really matter ref your credit worthiness. They really don't.

I might just do what Olinda99 suggested earlier, switch to my old Nationwide account and get the bonus, then eventually switch to FD at a later stage, or to another bank if there are better deals in the future.

I was hoping to open a current account which can offer a monthly bonus (a bit like Halifax with their 5 pounds/month bonus) but there aren't many options at the moment. So far it's only:
    - Halifax (5/month) but if 500 spent per month with a debit card which I won't do, or if 5k left in account, not worth it.
    - Natwest (5pounds a month) but I've read pretty bad reviews about this bank. There is also a 2 pound fee.
    - Co-op or TSB (2/month) more than 30 transactions per month are needed)

I'll re-open a Santander 123Lite but as a joint account. The monthly cashback is probably the best even after the 2 pound fee.
