Nothing wrong with downloading the app, its safe.0

Except you're recommending Starling and standard RBS credit card is as good Starling for purchases - arguably even better as can be used for car hire and hotel deposits.Daliah said:
I had indeed seen the Natwest card on the MSE list, and I know that the RBS card is the same. I still stand by my statement that neither the RBS debit nor their credit card are the best, as if they were, they'd be top of the list and not also-runs.Deleted_User said:

Your fears about the mobile app are unfounded, as long as you have basic access security on your phone, and also don't share your banking login details - all likely to be things you do anyway. You don't actually have to use the app abroad or outside your home, and it is perfectly secure to use it on your home WiFi (unless you live with determined hackers).Scotbot said:Off to Spain in a week and just tried to register my trip with RBS via online banking. No problem for my credit card but can't register my debit card. Rang them to be told that they can no longer do it. However the website clearly says you can via the app.
Don't have the app and don't want it as I think they are a safety risk using over public WiFi or if your phone gets nicked. Should I get it or just rely on credit card and cash?
But more importantly, neither the RBS debit nor their credit card are the best cards to use abroad. It's probably too late now to get yourself the better cards, but for future: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/travel-credit-cards. Although Starling Bank are very quick to apply for an account, and they send your card very quickly, too. Chase UK are even faster but as you are averse to apps, they are probably not for you.
Their standard credit card is identical to sister NatWest's offering - this is in the top tranche

The OP might already have the RBS card in their possession or be able to get RBS to convert their existing one.0 -
I think this discussion has run its course but I just like to clarify that I never recommended the use of a standard RBS credit card for spending abroad, and that I never said a standard RBS credit card is as good as Starling.Deleted_User said:

No, you recommended Starling when the OP noted they already possessed a RBS credit card.Daliah said:

As you acknowledge, the standard RBS credit card provides spending at the Mastercard rate; therefore Starling has zero benefit for spending.
Now I think this discussion has run its course.0 -
You can't ever admit you got anything wrong, can you.
You said to me: "Except you're recommending Starling and standard RBS credit card is as good Starling"
I said: "I never recommended the use of a standard RBS credit card for spending abroad.......I never said a standard RBS credit card is as good as Starling".
So for the avoidance of doubt, I never said what you said I had said.
The End.0 -
I'm not entering into circular discussions with you Colsten.Daliah said:You can't ever admit you got anything wrong, can you.

You recommend Starling when the RBS credit card likely in their possession is is as good/if not better for spending on.0 -
Good grief. It must be terrible to say "oops".0
