Morning all - a late start for me though I've been out into town already. The day has been miserable so far, perhaps it'll clear up in the afternoon. As I got out of my car at home I stopped to listen to the cuckoo calling in the woods, on my way out I had to follow a beautiful brown hare ( the ones with huge long ears) along the track as it didn't want to head into the verge or field.
These encounters with animals is one of the joys in my life. Today will be banking day, it's always a shock to see all the standing orders leave at once but that way I know that everything is paid and I'm clear for another month.Yesterday I ordered a few things online so will stop now! I have to think about what kind of gifts to take across to Australia for the family there - one adult male, his three young daughters and one young son, plus my SIL who will be celebrating her 70th birthday when I'm there. I usually give my SIL a silver thing but she no longer wears jewellery and is immersed in permaculture so pretty mucky most of the time.Sorry to hear you've been poorly Nelski, and good to hear that you're not too bad snoozer. DP1, the tales of your DGD are delightful to read. Scarlet, perhaps your DGD was a bit worried about all the spitting and noise from the steam train. Camelot - you mentioned the C word
and it's just barely May and then Coxy followed suit! Last evening I was so cold, it seemed to be in my bones even though it wasn't so cold outside. I didn't want to fire up the woodburner so went up to bed really early and snuggled under the duvet with the electric blanket on for a while and was soon cosy and warmed through. My 'new' hip is so much better after the steroid injection, plus I've been doing exercises to release the hip impingement which really helps. These exercises hurt to start with as the muscles were so tight, this morning I felt hardly anything. All good!I hope that everyone has a happy Tuesday.13 -
Gers, I was a bit scared when I saw that word that Camelot and Coxy mentioned.
I thought I'd done a Rip Van Winkle and woken up in December.
Hope today is a a better day for you Nels.
DP1, as Gers said it's always good to read about your Dgd, she seems to be a little character!11 -

COXY nothing to forgive as I have been at it too! I got some bargainous C gift bags last week but prior to that I had already been adding to my C gift stash when I spotted suitable stuff in any sales! x"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Afternoon all. Another gloomy day here with a bit of mizzle this morning, no wind either so it's going to hang around and it's much cooler too. I think the sun has gone on strike.
Grocery delivery has been, two subs accepted, otherwise all OK apart from a couple more price increases - what's new? Pot of Greek yogurt up 5p and a whopping 60p on a 500g block of butter!
It was £2.95 a month ago, went up 5p, then another 20p and is now £3.80.
This is what I call my "big" shop of the month and the end total of £48.05 wasn't too bad considering that included just under £12 on paper products (18 toilet rolls, 1 large kitchen roll, a twin pack of man-size tissues, a roll of bin bags that was one of the subs and a roll of food bags). Why do they all seem to run out at the same time? Still, we're stocked up now for quite a while. The toilet rolls are a "new to us" and look OK - a decent size, 3-ply and quilted - but they're lightly lotioned and fragranced. It's not an unpleasant smell but I can see it might take some getting used to - I haven't opened the pack yet and it already seems a bit niffy.
Tea tonight is savoury mince, the last of the sprouts and jacket potatoes. Not sure about afters, maybe just a bit of fruit & yogurt.
DH enjoyed the snooker yesterday and I even watched a bit myself. I'm not a fan of sports generally but can manage snooker or rugby. We watched Gentleman Jack after that and then decided to have an early night as it was getting a bit chilly. I thought I might be up a bit earlier this morning but no, I slept till my normal time so I must have needed a bit of extra sleep. What a shame DGS didn’t like the steam railway, Scarlet. Reminds me of my son at a primary school summer fete where there was a fire engine. The fireman showed him which button to press for the siren and he nearly jumped out of his skin!
Ruby, I think you’re right to say thanks, but no thanks. Glad mum seems to be improving.
Sorry to hear your buddy is feeling down in the dumps, TA - as you say, it will take time.
We’ve had pigs cheeks, Nels, that make a very rich and tasty casserole but never beef ones. I should imagine they are equally as tasty though. I hope your hands improve soon and that you’ll get an HRT script too. Well done on keeping the weight off.
Izzy - I’m sorry to hear your feet are still playing up. Have you had physio on them? Apparently it’s supposed to help. As for the smelly fridge, try putting a dish of bicarbonate of soda in there as well as some in the water when you clean it out.
I love a good mooch at a craft fayre Coxy but we don’t seem to have many around here. Shame.
Fingers crossed for a good outcome at the docs tomorrow, dp1.
Best wishes to those struggling with health or just in general. Take care. XBe kind to others and to yourself too.9
