Nothing. My second house however taught me the importance of flight paths and wind direction.

My first house has taught me that if your house floods, move out of there as soon as you can. Don’t wait around for 4 years for it to flood again

That places can change over the years.  Moved into my previous flat in 2000, loved it.  Mostly owner occupied and neighbours were good, communal areas indoor and out kept clean and tidy, managing agents for the development were proactive.

Move on to 2018.  75% of the flats are rented and getting the communal outdoor areas brought back up to a decent level is impossible as the managing agents can't get responses from the most of the landlords for anything.

Managing agents merged, changed hands and then merged again and were not easy to deal with or get any type of response from.

All the above is a big part of why I moved.

Not to buy too young just because everyone thinks you should (I was 22 and I didn't know what I wanted in life, let alone what career I wanted, let alone which part of the county / world I wanted to be in)

    4) Never live in a property with only one toilet. You can manage without heat or washing facilities but everybody poops.
Yes, but not all at the same time,
I believe that onyion's point was that if it breaks then you are left with no toilets at all until it's fixed, not that someone may just have to wait for a few minutes.

...... and every flush felt like russian roulette.
Everyday is like that in my house...

That the presence of hinges doesn't mean they're attached to anything - bedroom window of the first house flung open and it dropped straight out onto the flowerbed below!

Don't buy it with a terrible lazy !!!!!! of a partner. Now very happily married (to someone else!) and very happy in a great house together but blimey that was a nightmare to get out of, and financially a disaster. Don't underestimate what a big deal it is to buy a house with someone.
