Have the above, been happy with it. However, now, the library has changed to using Libby or Overdrive. Two problems, my new laptop does not recognise the ereader (have tried different leads etc), and also cannot get the internet now on it.
Is it likely the ereader/system is out of date? I don';t really understand why it won't work now.
Any advice please? It is about 8 years old.
Not looking to go the Amazon route, but go with Kobo. Would stay with Sony if they did ereader, but they do not!
Many thanks for looking.

My first ereader was the Sony PRS500. It lasted about 5 years but then I forgot about it for a while and the battery drained and I could not get it to take the charge again. Is it possible that the leads you have tried are for charging only?
Google finds a couple of suggestions

I switched to the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite. A vey good ereader (never tried a Kobo)Past caring about first world problems.0 -
Thanks IvanOpinion, will look into this.
Will try old laptop to see if it works, am sure it is not the leads.
Did I have to download something from Sony originally to link the ereader to my laptop? I can't remember! If so, I can't see it available on the Sony website.
Will post again when, and if, resolved.......thank you.0 -
Bit of an update.... realised I had to download the Sony software to new laptop. Did that, needs an old version of Windows to operate.......changed that.......pop up said 'unknown usb device has error', tried another lead.......now says USB device malfunctioned and windows does not recognise it'.......... Not the USB drive as other items connect okay and work.
Will try to find old laptop and see what happens, but looks like the software may be the issue, I think!0 -
Have now spoken with a friend, who reckons it might be the software is outdated........... so do need to buy a new ereader! Oh well, tried to be money saving.........but it will be money spending!
Anyone know of any offers on a Kobo Clara HD? Best price seems to be £120 for a new one, or a refurb from Kobo for £90.0 -
Read today that Kindle is about to start supporting the EPUB standard for ebooks. That opens them up to most of the rest of the ebook world (including public libraries) without having to resort to DRM-cracking and conversion software. Makes Amazon's ebook readers suddenly quite attractive and VFM (if they keep the prices similar to now).1

Calibre makes all ereaders attractive https://calibre-ebook.com/ and it may still support the old Sony too

I use Calibre with my T1 so I'm sure it will work with the T2.
You can get some interesting Calibre plugins for use with library books as well!

Update 2 - tried to connect Ereader to old laptop, but it is not recognised! Noting comes up! Tried another USB port, same problem, came up with Error 43 (I recall) and when I searched it indicates a software problem with the ereader........looks like I will have to get a new one! Also spoke to a techie friend who asked about updates from Sony, who made the ereader, and they no longer do updates! Pity, it was lovely, but now defunct!
Will have a look at Calibre, when I get a new ereader. (Side note - spoke direct to Kobo as have been looking at a Kobe Clara HD, they will give me a £20 discount, if I buy direct from the site!!) Best value I have seen so far!
