Energy from £117pm to £400pm?

I know the price of energy has risen but OMG! my latest bill from Scottish power is going up by over 260%!!! I have e mailed them and they insist it is correct but how can it be so high? We live (2 of us) in a terrace house, we work all day (not at home using power) and haven't done anything different from when it was £117 per month so how is this possible? By the way, I am £400 in credit from when I was paying £117 per month so I was obviously over paying at that price. If anyone at Scottish power sees this and has half a brain cell, surely you can see something isn't right here?

Why not try phoning them and seeing what they have to say?

Or post the full details of your usage so people can check the calculations. Note usage not monthly payments

Were you on a very good fix that has just run out ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Were you on a fix which is ending and the quote is for a new fix rather than the variable tariff which you would go on to if you turned down the fix? if so, you may well find the variable tariff is a cheaper option.

Hi Phil welcome to the forum

It may be you have just come off a very good fix and now find your self on the price capped rate and this can be a shock.

To check if they have it right have you got your usage in kWh for the year as this will help calculate what you should be paying.

    Welcome to the forum!

Look at the issue in terms of kWh used, as that is how you are billed.
If you have a smart meter or give regular readings, then it shouldn't be too difficult to work out from your bills what you have been billed for. If Scottish Power have been using estimates, then that needs sorting out first.
Once you establish your actual annual usage in kWh, you can work out what your monthly cost will be going forward until the next tariff change.
If you were on a fix that has just ended, then there will be a substantial increase in cost. Have they offered you a new fix, or are you on the standard variable (capped) tariff?

If you’ve come off a fix then the standing charges are going to be a lot higher, regardless of usage. And they may be taking the likely further increases in October in account in building up a buffer. Still seems like a huge increase though - have you done your sums as per the above post?
