Accidentally broke off cherry branch - any after care to help?
Hi All,
Unfortunately a small accident has just broken off one of the lowest branches on my cherry tree. Doubly annoying as it had a nice crop of cherrys coming on it. But, these things happen.
Is there anything that I should do - tape, gel? Or just leave it be?
Thanks

The answer keeps changing with fashion & knowledge, once it was cover the wound, then it changed to leave it to callous over, I honestly have no idea what latest thinking is so suggest you Goggle it for up to date advice. I do know cherrries will weep from cuts but again no idea if good or bad to cover this

Looks like a clean break. It's summer (almost!) so let it callus over and don't panic too much if it bleeds a little.

The sap is rising, so it may bleed. The advantage is that this will force out any nasties that might cause infection. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2

A partial tear I have used duct tape to rejoin branches sucessfully. If you have a wax candle and can melt some and apply that should keep any infection out. Or wrap in duct tape.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Thanks all for the replies. Does seem a few differences on options, and from a few google searches too. I'll take a look for sap tomorrow, hopefully nature will take its course.
