SMTP server for email (own domain name)

I have my own domain name for personal emails.  It's set to forward all messages to a single free GMX account, which I access via Thunderbird on my home PC.

To send emails, I'd always used my ISP's SMTP servers.  But I've just switched to NOW Broadband, who don't provide SMTP access.  I googled "SMTP providers", but they all seem to be intended for automated marketing/sales campaigns (e.g. sendinblue.com).

So...is my only option to pay for expensive email hosting?  :-/

Thanks in advance :-)

direcnic.com is very reasonably priced for domain hosting and SMTP email.  I've used it for years.

Well if Now don't provide it then that would suggest they aren't intercepting the traffic so in theory you should just be able to use the SMTP server of GMX?

Unfortunately, I can't use GMX's SMTP servers as they won't authenticate emails with my domain in the "from" field.

Directnic.com seem reasonable, and... a Raspberry Pi is a pretty good idea.  I'll have to look into that when I get some spare time.

    Thanks all :-

AWS SES is an option, but you'd need to look at pricing.

I use ionos.co.uk for, receiving/forward/sending, email and domains. They're costing me £11.99 a year, for ".uk" or ".co.uk",  for this, as a new customer you'd be able to get this for less. They support POP3, SMTP and IMAP
They also provide SSL certs, in the price, which I use to certify my websites hosted on a RaspberryPi running Nginx, but my ISP gives me a static IP.

If you're going to use a Pi for an email server you may, but probably may not, need to look into a dynamic DNS service as Now don't use static IPs - depends what you want and how you set it up.
