Owed £585 by Shell Energy for 9 years!

So I've accidentally discovered (by making a data deletion request) that I'm owed £585 by First Utility/Shell Energy from an account I closed nine years ago!
They've agreed to refund me, but my question is, am I entitled to compensation or at least the bank interest for all those years they've been profiting from this?
I know the legislation only goes back to 2019 regarding compensation for late payments but is this retroactive and do I have a case?

Assuming you're not in Scotland, the Limitation Act kicks in after 6 years.Which means that technically they may still owe you the money, but a court won't be interested in hearing a claim for the money after so long.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.2 -
Thought so, ok thanks

It sounds like it's probably their fault the balance wasn't paid back when you closed the account - so whilst you might not be legally entitled to interest, you could ask for it - if just a small good will payment.1

Update - They've offered me £75 as a gesture of goodwill which I'm more than happy to accept. Sorted!
