"Only boil what you need(1 cup/2 cups) of water as needed...."
But what if...........say our kettle could hold 10 cups of water, boiled from cold at 8am, 2 cups filled then a cosy keeps the remaining 8 cups warm for 2hrs then boil (from warm) at 12 -which would be quicker from cold, at 2pm boil the 6 cups of warm water (fast), ditto at 5pm (4 cups) 8pm (2 cups)
Would need a proper road test...lol

There's no debate and no need for a road test.
Boiling just what you need means you boil enough water for 10 cups of tea.
Filling the kettle and repeatedly boiling the kettle means you boil enough water for 30 cups of tea.0 -
As well as it being far more expensive to keep boiling the water, letting it cool, boiling it again, etc, it'll also make horrifically bad tea or coffee.11

There is not debate to be had. No matter how you try to insulate your kettle the water in it will cool down to some extent from when first boiled and so you need to use additional energy to heat it up again.

As soon as my solar panels hit just over 3kw i boil a kettle full and put it in a flask.1

Yes that makes potentially makes sense from a saving money perspective, whilst the total energy used will still be higher.Benny2020 said:As soon as my solar panels hit just over 3kw i boil a kettle full and put it in a flask.3 -

If it's cloudy I use my standard kettle, water measured exactly
If it's sunny I use my small travel kettle which takes twice as long but uses solar
If it's cloudy and winter I use the top of the stoveLove living in a village in the country side2 -
