Hi wonder if you guys can help.
What is the procedure for getting gas supplied to a property?
There is gas in the close but no gas connected to property.
The house is located in wigan greater manchester.
Anyone know the cost of having gas connected and who does it?
Also would the gas supplier of choice then fit the gas meter free?
Thanks guys.

I too live in Wigan we dont have a gas supply either. When I last enquired (about 12/18 months) ago we were quoted about £500 for the gas supply. I think that is the minimum cost based on the supply being x metres away. I think (although I may be wrong) it then goes up depending on the distance to the nearest supply. Our supply is on the opposite corner to us so its not very far! When we first moved in, in 2004, we were quoted about £200 but didnt have the money then and still dont have it now! I contacted Transco who sent us a pack out with forms to fill in. HTH.0

Distance will play a part. It depens what you mean by distance though as some people need a supply laying a long way which costs a lot more for obvious regions. All that extra digging and man hours are part of the reason like with any trade.
Best to have a read of the Ofgem doc from Canucklehead.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
It'll cost you £497 to have it installed if there's a supply close by.
When you get it installed you will then have to decide who you want to supply you with gas. When you have decided you phone the company up and get them to install the meter. There will be no charge for the meter to be installed.

Would it make a difference to the cost if other people in the close wanted gas supplied at the same time?Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught - Sir Winston Churchill0

They would still need to quote for the piping and connection point to the property. However, if there were pipes that needed laying that would be classed as communal piping up to a point where each individual supply gets jointed off from, I guess the cost could be spread.
Not sure how that would be done though as far as the quotes go? Could be some sort of agreement to pay X% each or maybe a bill would need to be addressed to a housing association group made up of the occupants which is how people in flats sometimes deal with communal costs like that.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
