itunes can't get rid of duplicates

I use itunes as my music manager, problem is I have a lot of duplicates (why?).I follow the help on duplicates but they keep coming back even though they are deleted from my recycle bin. leaves me puzzled, anyone else had this problem or better still a solution.

Sounds like you are only deleting the tracks from your playlists, rather than the library...0

well ,what I'm actually doing is selecting the duplicates option from the view tab then deleting them, they end up in the bin which I then empty, I can't see any other way of doing it,"Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

i find going into the library playlist and hitting delete on the track usually does the trick.
if that doesnt work, try finding the duplicate track in my music (in my documents) > itunes > itunes music0 -

When you do this it should give you an option to either delete from itunes library or delete from computer.
You need to select delete from computer to remove the files, otherwise they will reappear in itunes when you play them again if itunes is set to add played files to library.0
