Ferrero recall - right to credit card refund

Is Ferrero within it's right to only refund by Ferrero voucher. Easter is long gone and I don't buy chocolate normally as I am diabetic. In these difficult times I need to spend on my food shopping. Also, is Sainsbury's allowed to tell me to contact Ferrero? I have my online receipt for my delivery shop. Did not keep the 2 100g Easter eggs as I didn't want possibly contaminated by salmonella items in my home

Your rights are with the retailer, so if you want a refund, ask Sainsbury's. I expect whatever Ferrero is offering is just out of their goodwill.

Were the items on the list of those being recalled?  If so you have an argument to claim that the retailer should refund as you purchased from them.  If you simply decided you didn't want them you actually have no entitlement to anything and Ferrero have gone beyond their legal requirements by offering a voucher.

This is the correct answer - if the items are being recalled you can claim through the retailer, but if it's not on the recall list and is just goodwill you're not entitled to anything.

Chocolate eggs were made in Italy and not affected. It was Kinder eggs made in Belgium that were affected.

The voucher is a goodwill offer only.

Given that Sainsbury's directed you to the manufacturer is a strong indicator that the eggs were not part of the recall (otherwise they'd have handled it themselves).

Therefore the items did not have any realistic possibility* of being contaminated with salmonella and you had no grounds to ask for a refund.  You've thrown away perfectly good food and got some vouchers back in return  - consider that a win, and check the small print of a recall next time.

*no more so than any other item of food in your house.

Yes exactly, therefore as I stated if the OP didn't have the listed product they have binned perfectly good food and aren't entitled to anything.
