So just by looking at that really, I can see that we're better off by leaving it to go on the base tariff surely?

for the moment until the next SVT change, yes. Of course we don''t know what the next SVT change will be in October & therefore which will be better over 12 months especially as for most highest usage is over Winter.
The gas is quite a jump (~44%), the electricity perhaps not so bad (~20%). Don't suppose that you can take them as individual fixes rather than dual fuel?
Even though we're on separate gas and electric with them at the minute (our previous supplier went bust and BG but us on separate tariffs) they are combining them on the new comparison.

Maybe I need to speak to them about it and see if they can do it as separate accounts.

Yes you will (obviously) be better off now, during the summer months of low usage, but the base tariff is predicted to rise in October at the beginning of the winter, so you need to make a judgement on whether to fix now, pay more over summer but maybe gain over the winter if the base tariff rises a lot.
Thanks Olinda, it's a hard one isn't it!
We pay a fixed  amount through winter and summer and don't drop the payments so we build up quite a good credit over the summer months.

I have just gone to a fixed tariff with British Gas Exclusive May23v1, 55.752 day,31.919 kwh,was offered this last month as I was a customer who was transferred to them as a SOLR. I hung on as long as possible at the price cap tariff.Decided as there is a big chance prices will go through the roof again.in October,Jan and April.I will pay about £10 a month more,as we are all to receive £400 Grant in October,It all helps.

I did exactly the same. As soon as I saw the news about the anticipated scale of the October price cap increase, I signed up to this fixed rate in case it got pulled.

After much humming & hawing I did the same for electricity only (gas is with EDF SOLR'ed from ZOG). As a low user I reckon that it will cost me <£25 in increased SC & unit rates until October 1st's SVT change for certainty until next June. If the revised SVT at 1st October is less than May23V1 then I can drop back down to the new SVT without paying a penalty.

    Still 2nd-guessing myself though ...  :p
