i use vinegar, washing soda for everything, oven bathrooms toilets windows drains floors including carpet/sofa cleaning, i bought rather a lot of both products on line in error and ended up with loads of the stuff for about £20 I am slowly working my way through it all. For heavy cleaning you just leave it on for half an hour. I have a big sack in my downstairs toilet which is slowly going down.
Vinegar will also kill weeds and get rid of ants. Just make sure you don't pour it where you want to grow plants right away. We use it more for weed killing than anything else. It usually takes a couple of days to fully work.
I've been using it a long time. I make a cleaning spray in an old spray bottle. 1/3 vinagar, 2/3 water. Add some essential oil drops for a nice smell and give a good shake. I used to put a squirt of washing up liquid in. I use this for all surface cleaning and dusting. I also use neat vinegar for tougher jobs on its own.

The disadvantage of vinegar is that it makes your home smell like the local chipper.
Nah, it doesn't, the smell doesn't really linger - well I find anyway. Some of the shop bought cleaners leave unpleasant smells too, some are sickly sweet or floral or catch the back of my throat. That's why I keep cleaning to a minimum.

White vinegar is very very inexpensive and a staple cleaning product. Great for getting that yellowish discoloration from pillows. It will also make your drinking glasses sparkle.

Very sensible I've just made the mistake of trying some new laundry products - I was told they had a very mild scent. ONE laundry pod seems to have infected the machine (despite rewashing the original load with soda crystals, doing a drum clean, a hot wash for cleaning cloths and several loads since using my usual unscented options. I'm stupidly sensitive to smell, so I find vinegar a good option as the smell disappears very quickly.
I found a recipe for a fabric softener on some web pages. Can’t remember the exact proportions but it consisted of white vinegar, cheap hair conditioner and water. I have tried it and it seems to work ok. There is a slight vinegar smell which I smell when I take the clothes from the washing machine but never when they are being worn.

So much to read, so little time.
