HSBC New charges

Our community group had to stop in 2019 as committee changes and family responsibilities then covid hit. We reformed our committee this year but found our account was on hold  as it hadnt been used. When we finaly got new signatories that had to go in person to the bank. We found that they have been taking the fee since January. We had no knowledge of this and couldnt have swapped accounts as they had them on hold. Is this right. For a small community group £20 already is a drastic blow. What can we don?

Change banks. HSBC sent out at least 2 emails about this charge. There were also articles on here and in the press about it.

Though you could lodge an official complaint as your account was suspended at the time. They may refund those fees as a gesture of goodwill

My guess is the account become "Dormant" not on hold as such. Did the people that were running the account before still have their contact details attached to the account.

So just who was running the account from 2019?

As someone must have received the notifications about the charges being introduced. Has been brought up several times on this forum about the charges.
Best guess is they did, did nothing as they no longer had any dealings with the account. Or so they thought.

Even if account was suspended they can still charge the account. Or they would have simply closed it down.
